Ogmore valley wheelers
We are a cycling club based around Bridgend in Glamorgan, South Wales UK.
We welcome people of all cycling abilities.
We meet every Friday at 8:00p.m. at our new Tondu Resource Centre clubroom near to the church and the Iron Works. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available at a very modest price.
Newcomers are more than welcome, it is a social night so if you are interested in joining, or simply curious, then come along for a chat.
We have mountain bikers, time trialists, tandemists/tripletists?, commuters, pleasure riders, road racers and track riders so if you want someone to ride with, someone to train with or just someone to talk to then come along.
Our riding members range in age from early teens to mid sixties although in recent years we've had riders in their seventies still turning a pedal.
We hold club rides every Sunday , starting at 9a.m. or 10a.m. at Physiques on the Brackla estate. If you want a reasonably challenging ride (but not a race/training ride) of 60 - 70 miles be there at 9:00. If you want a more gentle ride the amblers leave at 10:00 and do 20 - 30 miles at the pace of the slowest rider. Usually the amblers ride is lead by someone who is able to offer help and advice to the newer, slower or mechanically inept riders in the group. Typically the amblers will finish the ride at a cafe for coffee and cakes etc.
Our membership is currently growing and many members arrange informal rides in addition to the organized ones.
In the spring/summer there are weekly time trial competitions and also a regular training ride on the Bridgend trading estate each Tuesday 6p.m. to 7p.m. then 7p.m. to 8p.m. when the clocks change.
Members also take part in the winter training sessions on Maindy track in Cardiff.
Ogmore Valley Wheelers host several 'open' races each year in road racing, time trialling and cyclo-cross and we are always open to new ideas.
